Inference:

We have started to think about how to be text detectives (we will work on these skills over the next few weeks). We can:

• Think: what do we know about this subject? How can this help us? (Text to self – what have I experienced that relates to this? Text to world – what have I seen in the world that connects? Text to text – what have I read?)

• Think: ‘I wonder…?’ as I read.

• Spot when we do not understand – use repair strategies.

• Read around a word to see what is before as well as after.

• Spot VIP words – put them together to make a gist (jigsaw).

Be visual – picture what might be happening.
